Since the Giraffe has the largest heart of any land mammal and has a long neck to gain perspective, it is used a symbol of compassion, focusing on needs and negotional strategies that seek a win/win. The Jackals represent Power Over, moralistic judgments, demands, guilt and win/lose mentality.

You can use the puppets to represent the expression from the Giraffe (Empathy) or the Jackal (Judgment), and the ears to represent the type of listening (Front-facing ears = empathic listening or judgments toward the other, Rear-facing ears = empathic listening or judgments toward oneself.

While it’s easy to fall into right and wrong thinking with the Giraffe and the Jackal, the Jackal can help guide us in becoming aware of our thoughts and habitual words, to look more deeply and discover our observations, feelings, needs and requests. We can learn to love our Jackal because it helps us know when something is very important for us.
